Ivory Kitchen Table Runner & Placemat Pattern

Table Runner
Level: Confident beginner and beyond

Mary Lou Hallenbeck designed this 18" x 52" table runner using the four 10" squares from the Ivory Kitchen panel. Reserve the six 5" square images for the two placemats. For the table runner, pin a small dark square to each corner of two images and a small light square to each corner of the two remaining images. Mark a diagonal line on each small square as pictured in the figure, sew on the line, and trim. Frame each of the resulting squares with narrow border strips and sew these four squares together to complete the center unit.

Then, make the eight beige and brown and four black and gray half-square triangle units for the outer borders. Lay out the borders with the half-square units as shown in the assembly diagram and sew to the center unit. To finish, simply layer, quilt, and bind. Add a small label to the back of the table runner, especially if this is to be a gift!

Placemats
Level: Confident beginner and beyond

Mary Lou also designed and made two placemats using the six remaining images from the panel. The placemats are pieced with the same half-square triangle techniques as the table runner and then assembled in vertical rows to finish at 14" x 20". Layer with batting, quilt in the ditch, and bind. Stitch up a pair of napkins from one of the Ivory Kitchen coordinates and set a pretty table for two!
