Shine Quilt Pattern
Lucy A. Fazely designed this charming 57" x 57" medallion style quilt for the Shine collection designed by artist Jackie Paton. First, fussy cut the central tree motif and the four smaller images from the panel. The cutting and sewing instructions are based on unwashed fabric, so if you prefer to prewash and press your fabrics, wait and measure the images again after washing and before cutting the strips for the blocks and borders. Sew the frames to the panel images and piece the eight Log Cabin blocks. Arrange the bordered panels and the Log Cabin blocks in three rows and sew the rows together to complete the center medallion unit. Add the first two borders to the center unit and follow Lucy's instructions and figures for mitering the wide outer border. To finish, layer, quilt, and bind, and don't forget to add a label to the back!
Wall hanging or tablemat:
Nancy Walhout Recker designed this easy and appealing 21" x 27" wall hanging or tablemat for Jackie Paton's Shine collection. First, fussy cut the sunshine motif from the main panel to measure approximately 10½" x 16½". Next, sew the narrow beige butterfly print inner borders to the four sides, and add the gold star print borders with cornerstones. For the outer borders, fussy cut the sunshine burst section from the border stripe and sew to the center unit with the cornerstones, as shown in the diagram. Layer with batting and backing, outline quilt the sun, hills, and trees in the panel motif, stitch in the ditch around the 3 borders, and bind.
Optional: Embellish the center sunshine motif and the sunshine burst borders with embroidery stitches and little star and butterfly buttons and beads!
